๐ Luteal Phase
The second half of the menstrual cycle, from ovulation to the start of the next period. It typically lasts 12-14 days and is dominated by progesterone.
In Detail
After ovulation, the corpus luteum produces progesterone, which thickens the uterine lining for potential implantation. A luteal phase shorter than 10 days (luteal phase defect) may not provide enough time for implantation, potentially causing infertility or early miscarriage. The luteal phase length is relatively consistent for each individual (ยฑ1 day) even when cycle length varies. BBT remains elevated during the luteal phase. If no pregnancy occurs, the corpus luteum degenerates, progesterone drops, and menstruation begins.
