๐ Menopause
The permanent end of menstruation, diagnosed after 12 consecutive months without a period. Average age is 51, but can occur naturally between 45-55.
In Detail
Menopause occurs when the ovaries stop releasing eggs and estrogen/progesterone levels decline permanently. Perimenopause (the transition) can last 4-8 years before menopause, causing irregular periods, hot flashes, sleep problems, mood changes, and vaginal dryness. Premature menopause (before 40) affects about 1% of women and may require hormone replacement therapy. After menopause, natural conception is no longer possible, though IVF with donor eggs remains an option.
