HomeGlossary › Ovarian Reserve

📖 Ovarian Reserve

A measure of a woman's remaining egg supply and quality. It's assessed through AMH blood tests, FSH levels, and antral follicle count (AFC).

In Detail

Ovarian reserve naturally declines with age, accelerating after 35 and significantly after 40. Key tests: AMH (Anti-Müllerian Hormone) reflects the pool of growing follicles — higher is generally better; FSH on day 3 — higher levels suggest fewer eggs; AFC via ultrasound — counts small follicles in both ovaries. Low ovarian reserve doesn't mean pregnancy is impossible but may require more aggressive treatment. Diminished ovarian reserve is the most common reason for egg freezing.
