๐ Preeclampsia
A serious pregnancy complication characterized by high blood pressure and protein in urine, typically developing after 20 weeks. Affects 5-8% of pregnancies.
In Detail
Preeclampsia can affect multiple organs including kidneys, liver, and brain. Warning signs: blood pressure above 140/90, protein in urine, severe headaches, vision changes, upper abdominal pain, sudden swelling (face, hands), and rapid weight gain. Risk factors include first pregnancy, age over 35 or under 20, obesity, chronic hypertension, and multiple gestation. Untreated preeclampsia can progress to eclampsia (seizures) or HELLP syndrome. The only cure is delivery. Low-dose aspirin (81mg) starting at 12-16 weeks may reduce risk.
