๐ Blastocyst
A hollow ball of about 200-300 cells that forms from the fertilized egg approximately 5-6 days after conception, just before implantation.
In Detail
The blastocyst has two distinct cell types: the inner cell mass (which becomes the embryo) and the trophoblast (which becomes the placenta). In IVF, embryos are often cultured to the blastocyst stage before transfer, as blastocysts have higher implantation rates than earlier-stage embryos. Natural blastocyst implantation occurs 6-10 days after ovulation.
