๐ Ectopic Pregnancy
A pregnancy that implants outside the uterus, most commonly in a fallopian tube. Ectopic pregnancies cannot develop normally and require immediate medical treatment.
In Detail
Ectopic pregnancies occur in about 1-2% of all pregnancies. Risk factors include previous ectopic pregnancy, prior pelvic surgery, endometriosis, PID, IUD use, and smoking. Symptoms include one-sided abdominal pain, vaginal bleeding, shoulder pain, and dizziness. If undetected, a ruptured ectopic pregnancy is a life-threatening emergency. Treatment options include methotrexate (medication) or surgery. An ectopic pregnancy does not affect your ability to conceive again in most cases.
