๐Ÿ“– Miscarriage

The spontaneous loss of a pregnancy before 20 weeks. Occurs in 10-20% of known pregnancies, with most happening in the first trimester.

In Detail

Most first-trimester miscarriages are caused by chromosomal abnormalities in the embryo โ€” random genetic errors that aren't caused by anything the parents did. Other causes include uterine abnormalities, blood clotting disorders, hormonal problems, and autoimmune conditions. Recurrent miscarriage (3+) warrants investigation. After one miscarriage, the chance of a subsequent normal pregnancy is about 85%. Physical recovery typically takes 1-6 weeks; emotional recovery varies greatly.
