๐Ÿ“– Fallopian Tubes

Two thin tubes connecting each ovary to the uterus. Fertilization normally occurs inside a fallopian tube, which then transports the fertilized egg to the uterus.

In Detail

Each fallopian tube is about 10-12 cm long with finger-like projections (fimbriae) that sweep the released egg from the ovary into the tube. Cilia inside the tube help move the egg toward the uterus. Blocked or damaged fallopian tubes are a major cause of infertility, preventing sperm from reaching the egg or the embryo from reaching the uterus. HSG testing can check for blockages. IVF bypasses the fallopian tubes entirely.
