📖 HSG
Hysterosalpingography — an X-ray procedure where dye is injected through the cervix to check if the fallopian tubes are open and if the uterine cavity is normal.
In Detail
HSG is typically performed days 6-12 of the cycle (after period, before ovulation). The procedure takes 15-30 minutes and may cause mild to moderate cramping. Results show whether tubes are blocked (hydrosalpinx, adhesions) and can reveal uterine abnormalities like polyps, fibroids, or septum. Interestingly, HSG may slightly improve fertility in the months following the procedure by flushing the tubes. Alternative tests include SHG (sonohysterogram) and laparoscopy.
