In Detail

IUI bypasses the cervix, giving sperm a head start by placing them closer to the fallopian tubes. It's often used with ovulation-stimulating medications (Clomid or gonadotropins). Success rates: about 10-20% per cycle, depending on age and cause of infertility. IUI is less invasive and less expensive than IVF. It's commonly recommended for unexplained infertility, mild male factor, cervical factor, or when using donor sperm. Most doctors recommend 3-6 IUI cycles before moving to IVF.
