๐ Clomid
Brand name for clomiphene citrate, the most commonly prescribed fertility medication. It stimulates ovulation by blocking estrogen receptors in the brain.
In Detail
Clomid works by tricking the brain into thinking estrogen is low, causing increased FSH production and follicle development. It's typically taken days 3-7 or 5-9 of the cycle for 3-6 months. Success rates: about 80% of women ovulate on Clomid, and 40-45% conceive within 6 cycles. Side effects may include hot flashes, mood swings, headaches, and a 5-10% chance of twins. Letrozole (Femara) is an increasingly popular alternative.
