๐ Uterine Fibroid
Non-cancerous growths of the uterine muscle that develop during reproductive years. Up to 80% of women develop fibroids by age 50, though many have no symptoms.
In Detail
Fibroids range from seedling-size to large masses that distort the uterus. Types include submucosal (inside the cavity โ most likely to affect fertility), intramural (within the wall), and subserosal (on the outer surface). Symptoms include heavy periods, pelvic pressure, frequent urination, and back pain. Risk factors include age, family history, Black race, and obesity. Treatment ranges from monitoring to myomectomy (surgical removal). Submucosal fibroids should typically be removed before fertility treatment.
