Vaginal Discharge Changes

Early Pregnancy

What Is It?

Increased vaginal discharge (leukorrhea) is one of the earliest pregnancy signs. Normal pregnancy discharge is thin, white or milky, and mild-smelling. It increases throughout pregnancy due to higher estrogen levels and increased blood flow to the vaginal area.

Common Causes

Rising estrogen levels, increased blood flow to the cervix and vagina, cervical mucus plug formation, hormonal changes in vaginal pH, and natural cleaning mechanism to prevent infection.

⚠️ When to See a Doctor

If discharge is green, yellow, or gray. If it has a strong, foul smell (fishy). If accompanied by itching, burning, or redness. If it's chunky or cottage-cheese-like (yeast infection). If you see blood-tinged discharge after 37 weeks (could be mucus plug).

💡 Tips & Management

Wear breathable cotton underwear. Use unscented panty liners if needed. Don't douche — it disrupts natural balance. Wipe front to back. Avoid scented soaps or feminine sprays. Stay hydrated. Track discharge changes in Ovuloom.
