What Is It?
Endometriosis occurs when tissue similar to the uterine lining grows outside the uterus — on ovaries, fallopian tubes, or other pelvic structures. It affects about 10% of women of reproductive age and is a leading cause of infertility.
Common Causes
The exact cause is unknown. Theories include retrograde menstruation (menstrual blood flowing backward), immune system dysfunction, hormonal factors, genetic predisposition, and surgical scar implantation.
⚠️ When to See a Doctor
If you have severe period pain that interferes with daily life, if you experience pain during intercourse, if you have painful bowel movements or urination during your period, if you're struggling to conceive, or if pain medication doesn't help.
💡 Tips & Management
Track pain severity and timing in Ovuloom. Note pain during different activities (intercourse, bowel movements). Keep a detailed symptom diary — endometriosis takes an average of 7-10 years to diagnose. Advocate for yourself with healthcare providers.
